We hope our breakfast will give you the perfect start to a day of walking or touring.

Our traditional breakfast has been sourced from local suppliers - this means fewer food miles and fresher food. Our sausages and bacon come from the rare breed pigs at Peter Gott's Sillfield Farm in Endmoor, near Kendal, www.sillfield.co.uk . His Cumberland sausage is a prize-winning recipe and full flavoured and the bacon is a special black back bacon cured in molasses and treacle. We serve this with a fresh local free range egg, tomato, mushrooms and, being traditional, fried bread and Black Pudding.

For those of you who like the healthiness of Omega 3 oils, why not try our Cumbrian smoked Kippers, served with a baked tomato and buttered brown bread. Or there is Aga Porridge, cooked overnight and dressed with whisky and cream. For others that want a lighter or vegetarian option, we offer cheese or mushroom omelettes or Sauted Mushrooms on Toast, cooked with a dash of vermouth and cream.

Home baked bread and preserves - made as far as possible from soft fruits from the garden - are served to complement your breakfast.

The breakfast beverages we offer include English Breakfast Tea, fruit and herbal teas and Freshly Ground Coffee which we source from Monmouth Coffee www.monmouthcoffee.co.uk . Its proprietor Anita Le Roy travels the world meeting the growers and building good relationships with them - she pays more for her coffee beans, but the quality is better - this is fair trade and great coffee.
